The problem many good Christians have with the science of astrology is threefold: (always a trinity!) first, that it is believed to have been taught by fallen angels to women; second, that it has been corrupted in passing down the millennia; and third that it puts power into the hands of the individual believer as opposed to the church.
Yet Scripture tells us plainly that Isaiah, Abraham, and the apostles were expected to know enough about the stars to understand Gods references to them. God rebuked Job with a reference to His glory and power. "Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?" (Job 38 31-33). That last mention of the stars having dominion over the earth is inarguable. God said it Himself!
This also demonstrates that Baraqiel had little to nothing to do with creating, naming, or placing the stars. His one claim to fame may have been retelling the stories associated with them down through the ages, with the diverse details and myths attached. Here he was doing Gods will without realizing it, in passing on to us many of the distracting details which plague us. We will be going into this at length!!
Lastly, many churches which arose after our Lord ascended into heaven are Christian in name only; they like the power they have over the lives and behavior of others, and they jealously want to hold on to that power. They misconstrue what Scripture says to their congregation about the origin and purpose of astrology, and refuse to allow their sheep the freedom to know and follow the Good Shepherd.
In passages which they cite to condemn astrology, they deliberately obfuscate what God is condemning.
This condemns the worship of the Sun or Moon or stars, not the observance!
We all of us use tools; some of us use jackhammers and some tongue depressors; some of us use paint or cello or graphics. No one of us worships our tools. No one of us prays to our tools. We all know that we are the ones conceiving the inspiration, and executing the work. The tool is a tool, nothing more. As are the planets, stars, and all things in creation; good tools with which to serve a loving and beautiful God!
Perhaps the most important book of our day is that of the Revelation of John of Patmos, commonly called the Apocalypse of John.
We find so much to encourage us to study the heavens and takes its daily lessons to heart in this book!!
Jesus even wrote letters to the angels of the planets, which are recorded in Revelation. He further mentions the twelve signs of the zodiac as the children of Israel.
In Revelation 5:12, we read the whole heavenly host of angels proclaim that at the Lamb That Was Slain is to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing. Obviously that Lamb That Was Slain is Jesus; the whole heavenly host is the zodiac. Jesus is being worshiped by the stars themselves!
